The U.S. should adopt a flat tax. The flat tax works by taking a set percent of everyone's income. This way all taxpayers would be treated equally and fairly.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with Tim. The only equal and fair treatment for our taxpayers is for every to pay the same amount into the system.
ReplyDeleteI think that the U.S. should impose taxes that are based on a certain percentage of your gross income. This way, the wealthiest people in America are helping pick up the slack that the other half of the nation can't pay. It is not fair for the middle and lower class to pay the same as the wealthiest 5% because it will have a greater impact on someone who has less money to give. In other words, the wealthiest people of America can and should pay more taxes than the average citizen.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Amanda, I think the US should impose a graduated tax. Like Amanda said, it is not fair for the middle and lower classes to pay the same as the wealthiest 5%. The lower class has less money to give and therefore will be hit harder by taxation than the upper class who are barely bothered by the amount they have to pay.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what Laura and Amanda say. Some of the wealthiest people in the country pay less taxes then their employees, like Warren Buffet. Also, why do the middle and lower class have to pick up the slack for what the richest classes don't have to pay. Shouldn't be the other way around? If, the middle and lower classes didn't have to pay then we could spend more with what extra money we have from not paying as much taxes. Hence, companies might hire more with new orders, and customers to serve that they have now from people spending more. There might be new jobs created. Therefore, helping out the economy.

ReplyDeleteIf you were poor working as hard as you could just to pay rent and buy food for your kids, do you think it's fair for a CEO of a big business to have to pay the same amount as you do while they get to take long vacations? Sure, they worked hard to get where they are now, but they shouldn't pay the same amount, the CEOs should pay more because they have more income to give. When and if the poor find higher paying jobs and are able to make more money, then they should have to pay more taxes. All the taxes should be based on income, and a percentage of it, not just if you make money (or even don't) that you need to pay a flat tax.
ReplyDeleteI sort of agree with Tim, but a flat tax has a lot of cons, and from what I was reading it seems like the same problems we have now would develop out of it. I just think everyone should be required to pay taxes around the same amount like a flat tax. There are a lot of people in the country that do not pay anything, one group being illegal immigrants, so if we could make it so everyone payed the economy could recover more quickly.
ReplyDeleteI agree somewhat with timmy. I think a flat tax would work if it was low enough for the lower class. People that made more money would get a bigger break but this may motivate lower class people to be more successful. Also, i agree with Jenna. It would be very beneficial for everyone in our country to pay and that may make a flat tax more realistic. There wouldn't be enough need for the people who do pay taxes if everyone paid.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Amanda, that's why the flat tax would be a good idea. If a family made 50,000 a year and the flat tax was 10% of their income they would pay 5,000 and someone who made 1,000,000 would pay 100,000. This would be fair and would help the economy. And Morgaine stop calling me Timmy!
ReplyDeleteWell put Hogue..The middle class suffers the most because they don't have a ton of money but just enough so that they do not get breaks like the lower class. If the government isn't willing to make the rich pay more, they should at least give the middle class some kind of break.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Timmy. Taxing every family a set percentage would be the best and most fair way to tax people. The government shouldn't take a higher percentage of your money just because you've worked hard and done well for yourself, they should take a certain percentage out of everyones money. It's the only way that everyone can be giving the same amount tothe government without having everyone complain that their taxes are higher than everyone elses
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ian when he says that a flat tax is the only way not to have everyone complain that their taxes are higher than others; however there will still be complaints about other issues. The lower class doesn't have as much money to shell out to the government as the upper class so right off the bat there will be complaints on how they are having trouble making ends meet. Also, like Amanda said the middle class will be suffering because they make just enough money that they don't get breaks like the lower class does but not as much as the upper class makes. A graduated tax would tax an appropriate amount from each class based off of certain situations. It’s important to remember that not everyone in the upper class is there because they are hard workers and not everyone in the lower class is lazy. The world is way more complicated than one stereotype.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Tim. If everyone had to pay the same percentage as everyone else with a flat tax, then everyone would be paying a fair share based on how much they make and still have enough money to support their families.
ReplyDeleteI think that taxing by a certain percent of what an individual makes is the best way to go because that way people are paying what is reasonable for them. Obviously those who are bringing in more money every year will be paying more because they can and those who are struggling will not have to pay so much because they can not afford to even though to them it will be a lot but at least people who are in the lower income bracket are not paying the same amount of money as those who are better off, they are just paying in percentage to what they are making so it should be pretty fair.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Laura who agrees with Ian that the flat tax would be best but no matter what system the citizens of the US have to follow, there will always be complainers. That is just who we are as humans. Nothing is ever good enough and it is impossible to please everyone so by going with what the majority thinks is fair is the most likely thing to do.
ReplyDeleteI think that the United States Government should adopt a system that is proportional to a certain individual's income. If someone makes X amount of money, then they should be taxed a proportional amount. What most of us are saying is that poor people obviously have less money, so they should be taxed less. Furthermore, the rich have more money, so they should be taxed more.
ReplyDeleteDean is completely right in my opinion. If we had a proportional tax based on income it might not be the most popular idea, but it is the most fair to all the people. It could be seen as a "flat tax" because everyone is paying the same percentage.
